trying to steal blankets at a Motel 6

On each floor there is a door
that reads "Employees Only."
On floors 3, 6 and 7 these doors are locked.
And feeling as though the hall was haunted,
(This must have been some other hotel...an older one)
I was too afraid to find a wire
and try to pick the locks.
On floors 2, 4, 5, 8, and 9 I was able
to open the doors
that read "Employees Only."
Once inside, I would shut
the door behind me quickly
and make search
of the small yellow room.
Most often, these rooms contained
nothing and a bottle
of blue cleaning liquid.

The stairs were the most troubling
thing. You could not take them
without setting off an alarm
and I needed stealth
and I am afraid of elevators.
I think this is because of that episode
where Mr. Belding's wife
has her baby in one
and I think Screech passes out
as well...didn't he always?

On floor four
four floor
when I got into the elevator
there was a whole crowd of happy African women
and they had been smoking weed in the hallway.
Breaking the rules
and I wanted to let them know that I
too
broke the rules,
but I didn't want to say
"Hey. I've been stealing blankets.
Can I smoke weed with you?"
Because in fact, I had not actually
stolen one.
